Geothermal system installation
Geothermal system installation
A geothermal heat pump system is a central heating and/or air conditioning system that actively pumps heat to or from the shallow ground. It uses the earth as either a source of heat in the winter, or as a coolant in the summer. This design takes advantage of moderate temperatures in the shallow ground to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Because of the technical knowledge and equipment needed to properly design and install a geothermal energy system, a GSHP system installation is NOT a do-it-yourself project.
The ground loops are generally warranteed for 50 years. For this reason it is strongly recommended to only use the services of engineers and installers who have been accredited by the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition and to only use equipment which has an Energy Star rating.
GES engineers and installers are all accredited by the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition and we typically use equipment supplied by Waterfurnace International.

Please note that, because of lack of space, a vertical ground loop was used in this example. Where sufficient space is available, a horizontal ground loop would be preferable in order to reduce costs.
